My friend Nelson Thall alerted me to a video in which Buzz Aldrin responded to an 8-year-old girl who asked him, “Why has nobody been to the moon in such a long time?”
His answer? Oops! Big time admission! After a guttural half-laugh, Buzz launches into an uneasy dance and says “…that’s my question. I want to know but I think I know cuz we didn’t go there…that’s the way it happened and if it didn’t happen it’s nice to know why it didn’t happen so in the future if we want to keep doing something we need to know why something stopped in the past that we wanted to keep it going. Ah, money is a good thing. If you want to buy new things…” Blah, blah, word salad. It’s harder to lie to a cute 8-year-old than to adults, as Buzz has reliably done for nearly a half century.
I’ve got news for Buzz, though admittedly it is not real news to him: money (better rockets!?) cannot cure the radiation problem. It’s the show stopper for manned space flight in deep space. I could go on about all the impossibilities we have been fed but no need here. The “news” that NASA and its Apollo “moon landings” is a massive scam will spread over time, guaranteed. Very satisfying. “Truth is a lion” as the Moroccan proverb puts it.
